In this message from the God Can series through the book of Daniel, Pastor Aram Mushegan explains the biblical meaning behind some of the things we do in worship and why worship should become more than something we do on Sunday.
Throughout Scripture, worship is expressed through action. We raise our hands, kneel, sing, give, and praise God as outward expressions of surrender, dependence, humility, honor, and what we believe about Him. The actions alone do not prove what is in our hearts, but genuine worship does not remain disconnected from the way we live.
Daniel 4 gives us a powerful picture of the opposite of worship. King Nebuchadnezzar looked at Babylon and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power...for the glory of my majesty?” He enjoyed what God had given him while forgetting the One who gave it.
Worship continually puts our hearts back in the right position before God. It protects us from pride, reminds us who our source is, and redirects our attention toward Him.
Babylon says, “Look what I have built.”
Worship says, “Look what God has done.”
Babylon says, “Look what I have built.”
