The benefits of prayer

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you see the word prayer? For most it is a simple routine of thanks in the morning and request to keep the family safe throughout the day. A prayer before a meal or even the bedtime routine,“now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep…” To others it means connection. It means power. It is a lifeline of communication from the Father to ourselves. It is the greatest ingredient to knowing our God. For many, it is simply in case of emergency call God kind of thing.

Over the next few weeks, Pastor Aram is taking us through a series all about Prayer and I could not be more excited. I write a personal blog and the name is The ASAP Mom, which stands for Always Saying A Prayer…I guess you could say I probably pray more than I talk and if you know me, you know I talk a lot. In my walk with Christ, I can promise you that the one thing that has kept me growing and knowing is first by His word in the Bible and second through my connection in prayer. I LOVE PRAYER!

There was a time my husband and I were golfing, long before his activity or presence in the church was known. It started pouring down rain on us and he said,“if only it would stop long enough for me to go get the truck.” I simply said aloud, “Lord, let the rain stop long enough for my husband to get the truck.” The rain stopped, literally long enough for us to get in the truck and then the rain fell even harder. His mind was blown and the seed I planted was watered even more. I would pray for strangers I met that opened up to me. I would pray the light turned green or I got the rockstar parking. In these simple prayers I also spent many times praising. It is the tiniest things about our day that go smoothly that we simply forget to thank God for. We are quick to pray when things get tough and we must also pray even when we feel we have enough. If you can think it, I guarantee I have prayed it. In every room of my house, in every car I get into, in every building I walk into. If I am breathing; I am uttering a prayer of some sort.

We have the power as long as we are connected to the source. The first key in todays lesson was that prayer produces power. We must be locked into God’s promises and be alone with Him in order to receive that kind of praying power. Without Him we are just making wishes. Jesus himself went alone often to be with the Father to hear His guidance and receive His instruction. Let us be more like Jesus in knowing our God is our Father.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
-John 14:12-14

The second key was that prayer produces partnership! When we connect ourselves to the source, then we have access to things the world cannot provide. We have an endless amount of wisdom and knowledge that can only be gained through His word and prayer. If we line ourselves up with God then He can direct our ways. He can link us to the people, places, and purposes He created us for. In business you want a good partner that you can trust and rely on. In a relationship you want a partner that knows you and can grow with you.

The Lord’s love never ends. He never wants us to stop learning and loving for Him. If you are comfortable in your position with God right now than it is time to get uncomfortable and push deeper into that relationship to see where else and what more He needs you to be for Him. You are loved. You are worthy. You are His.

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
-2 Corinthians 1:20

Father,

I pray that right now someone was yearning for salvation and received it. I pray that anyone in need of a miracle receives it. Lord, heal the sick and let the broken become whole through Your presence in our prayer. Let us become bold in our prayer time and not for once doubt the power of connection and partnership that is found in our time with You.
Thank You Lord for all You do through us and for us.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
